Excellent Value
By rmc
We have numerous laptops in our household. Our oldest daughter has an Apple laptop through school. I have a Dell Inspiron through work. I also have an ASUS 1000H netbook for myself, an Acer 1410 with SU3500 processor for our younger daughter, and an older 15" Toshiba Satellite for my wife. I purchased the 13.3" Lenovo Edge with SU7300 processor as a replacement for my wife's computer. She had been complaining about the poor battery life and poor WiFi signal of the Toshiba for months, but did not like the small screen of either the 11.6" Acer or the 10.1" ASUS. She had also been complaining of wrist pain. This unit seemed to have the best of all worlds. Light weight, long battery life, very nice screen, an incredible keyboard, and a fairly reasonable price tag. We have not had the laptop very long, but my wife seems to really like it, especially the keyboard, track point, and multiple mouse buttons. Build quality appears to be much better than the Acer, although there does appear to be a slight flex in the lid as you open and close it. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to perform the initial set-up. In about 30 minutes, I had configured WiFi, had the computer automatically find drivers for our all-in-one HP printer (a first, usually need CD), and had downloaded and installed Open Office, Panda Cloud Antivirus, free PrevX3.0, McAfee SiteAdvisor, and IOBit Advanced System Care (primarily for Smart DeFrag and SmartRAM). This probably has more to do with Windows 7 Professional than the Lenovo Edge. The only minor negatives that I can think of are: 1) the touch pad seems less responsive than that of my ASUS, although I did not try to update drivers or change settings, and 2) the 32-bit version of Windows 7 limits you to 3 GB RAM, although 3 GB of DDR3 RAM is more than sufficient for my wife's needs. Very happy with purchase thus far. Still debating whether AMD version may be better value IF you do not mind less battery life. I have read some recent reviews of Lenovo laptops complaining about bloat-ware, but personally did not notice anything egregious on the Lenovo Edge. Especially when compared to the HP laptop that I owned prior to my ASUS netbook OR to the Toshiba Satellite that the Edge is replacing.
UPDATE: Been using Edge for a couple of weeks and extremely happy with everything EXCEPT touch pad. Touch pad works fine as a normal mouse, but virtually none of the multi-touch functionality is usable. Shame considering the utility of the multi-touch features on my ASUS 1000H netbook (toggle between windows, zoom in & out, rotate, scroll vertically & horizontally, page back & forth, etc.) UPDATE2: Starting to get hang of touchpad. I am able to use more multi-touch features. Tapping gestures work fine. Scrolling and paging work OK, but sometimes have to try a few times. Still have not gotten rotate to work very well. Multi-touch does appear to work, but takes some time and effort.

Very good laptop ,a good price - very good bargain
By Eldar Eilam
I was looking for a good laptop for quite a while. My requirements were: Lightweight laptop (less than 1.8 Kg), decent configuration that can handle the Win7 aero interface properly, 13" screen, and of course the whole package in a decent price.
I chose not to pick up a notebook since they're either too small or have weak processor. So I found myself seeking among the wide world of laptops. Then I found the new Lenovo Edge family.
Now, a month after I have this laptop I can share this:
It is a nice laptop. Yes, I have seen better looking ones, but still, it looks gentle and elegant.
The weight is pretty much what I was looking for, only 1.6kg including the 6 cells battery. Battery life is roughly five hours from what I've been able to ascertain by now.
The Win 7 (premium) runs smoothly, there's a HDMI connector which I connect to a full HD screen (1900x1080) and it looks just great. The keyboard is really comfortable and easy to use.
Cons: The screens resolution is a bit low for my taste and it lacks a CD/DVD optic driver. It also shows a somewhat tendency to heat up, but nothing that bothers while it's placed on your laps.
Conclusion: This is one of the best bargains you can find in its price.

Would buy again
By B.C. Geek
When I went researching my next notebook computer for work, the following features were a "must": Small screen, lightweight, long battery life, dual-core CPU, good keyboard, gigabit Ethernet and Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. GB Ethernet is great for backups over the network and remote sessions, Win7 32-bit provides the best compatibility with the multitude of weird software and drivers that I have to run for work, and the Pro version allows me to run some legacy software under an included, virtualized Windows XP operating system that (almost) seamlessly integrates into the regular desktop. All my "musts" this device performs fine at. Size, weight, keyboard and battery life are great and it performs very well for all my tasks. In addition, the screen is bright enough so that I can work outside and read everything with no problem at all, something I've never had before. I am definitely satisfied.
That said, the device is not entirely without flaws: As others have noted, the touchpad leaves something to be desired. Tuning its settings in Device Manager helped but it still is not as responsive as I would like, especially using multi-touch. Also, the fan is not exactly low-noise when it turns on, similar to other Thinkpads, and I wish they would have put a more silent harddrive in (e.g. Fujitsu instead of Seagate). I would have liked the eSATA port and ExpressCard slot which the 15" model has and the single indicator LED takes some getting used to. Finally, even though I chose the matte black model, the surface does show fingerprints and the lid doesn't use the high-quality rubberized material of other Thinkpads.
Overall though, the good far outweighs the bad and I would buy it again.
Update 7-OCT-2010: After working with it for several months, my opinion of the computer is still the same. The keyboard's "feel" is fantastic, my only gripe with it is that the function keys for brightness, volume etc. are not in a separate row but double with the function keys. You can switch so that the function keys are the primary function but since I use both frequently I have to reach for the red 'Fn' key quite often either way which is cumbersome. Getting rid of the Thinkpad-typical second set of buttons above the touchpad would have made room for an extra row of keys.
