Everything I expected
By ArchiMatt
I bought this netbook to supplement the 17" mobile workstation I have at school. I like my "big" computer a lot but it is too big too drag around and has a power module (which I have to have always - the laptop is power HUNGRY and lasts about an hour and a half) that is the size of a brick and weighs twice as much. I needed something that was small and could give me basic functions like internet, email, and office. This has fit the bill nicely so far.
I opted for the ASUS over other brands because it was very well received by top reviewers and because of the battery life. After 3 days of heavy use, it has lived up to its reputation. The first day I had it I charged the battery to 100% and disconnected the power cable. I put it through it's paces by downloading several software titles like Office 2010 professional, Norton, itunes, VLC, google chrome, etc. I was installing these while surfing the net and transferring files so the screen never had a chance to rest and I got a good 7+ hours out of the battery. I liked the little things that ASUS thought of like Velcro ties to the power cable and a the fact that the power cable "snaps" int the input (my big laptop is cnstantly getting
discnnected when I move it arund n a table)).
It's small, light and is powerful for what it is. No fingerprints, great customizable controls for the touchpad, and function keys that offer quick access to important functions. My fears of what a Win7 starter experience would be like were put to rest as it is very similar to regular Win7. I'm sure there are things that a computer expert would notice but for the everyday user who just needs an OS to get to their software it should be fine (one thing I did notice was that you can't customize things like wallpaper, themes, or screensavers). I will most likely upgrade to full Win7 after I get the 2nd Gb of RAM in because it is free through my university but if I couldn't have it, I wouldn't miss it.
Speaking of RAM, one bit of caution: Amazon will "suggest" an ASUS/RAM combo, if it is the corsair do not purchase the RAM as it is not compatible with the netbook. I purchased them both together assuming that it would all work but it won't and had to order a different module Crucial CT25664BC1067 2GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory Module and will have to return the corsair.
A few other additional kudos:
Netbook does not get hot when running(my big one gets REAL hot)
Boot up time is pretty quick and ASUS has a their own "OS" that's quicker but I don't think I'll be using it much if at all.
Battery saving options are plentiful
Keyboard is easy to use even given the smaller size
A few things that could be better:
Hard drive space actually equals about 220 Gb (I think some more may be used for ASUS's OS system) and is partitioned to a C drive with 100Gb and a D drive with about 120 Gb (not the usual 10Gb for recovery) so you may have to do some finagling with your files and shortcuts to get full us out of them
The 1 Gb of RAM has been sufficient enough to do everything I've done and in a decent time but the CPU/RAM clock gadget shows it using 75-80% of the ram almost all the time even when no software is running so I would suggest the upgrade to 2 Gb if you are considering this computer.
All in all I have been impressed with this unit.

Netbook ASUS Eee PC 1015PED
By IceCube
I have had the Asus 1015PED now for a couple of weeks and it works great. The 1G RAM is working but the reviews read said it will work even better with 2G so the RAM is on order. Applications running without issue so far are- Internet browsing, Netflix, MS Word, MS Excel, Media Player and I just setup the network printer.
It arrived from Amazon as promised (as always).
This is not the sort of device you would use to replace a laptop or desktop computer. It is more like a personal entertainment center that sits next to my work computer at home.

bit of bait and switch
By Sherry Somach
I bought this due to friend's recommendation, and also it is oldest maker of this type of netbook.
I like the skype, and the size and weight.
Here are my isues: When I bought online it said 13 hours on a charge. When I opened my computer, the label said 10. I could live with that, but if it loses a little charge, while plugged in and not in usage, it says 98 percent charged 5 hours and so many minutes left. That means when I am not using the netbook, I am
getting 6 hours at best.
Issue2: Even worse, while I am typing the cursor slips into some other part of the letter and inserts text where it doesn't belong. I then have to cut and paste.
Perhaps I have a defective unit. If so, I would like to know as I am probably still under warantee.
